Piano Care
What you can do for your piano, and how we can help. We offer consulting either over the phone, by e-mail, or fax. If you have a question, problem, or need information about a repair - please contact us.
Has your piano been cleaned lately?
Anyone can thoroughly clean a piano with the proper patience. Basically, there are two kinds of cleaning: exterior or "aesthetic" cleaning of the case of the piano, and an interior or "functional" cleaning on either uprights (verticals) or grands (horizontals). Those smudges from 30 years of practicing will come off, and so will the paint scrapes from when they brought the piano through the door. Contact us!
Does the action work properly?
If keys are rubbing/binding against eachother, it may be as simple as something stuck between the keys. Perhaps you hear clicking noises or tapping - or you hear a note more than once - this could mean action work or hammer adjustments, or maybe something fell down into the mechanism. If you feel like the key dip is too shallow or high, or you are loosing control of the keys, perhaps a regulation is needed. Is the tone of your piano pleasurable? Perhaps a tuning is needed, or restringing - maybe the hammers need reshaping or replacing. Marquez Pianos' philosophy is to begin with the simple, conservative repair, then move on through various levels as necessary.
Missing a part? Need a part? Describe it and draw it, fax it to us, and we'll get back to you with the name of the item and a price. Or, we'll fax you a picture and you can circle the where the problem lies.
Can a piano be restyled?
Pianos can be transformed from Period to traditional, Queen Anne, Louis XV, French Provincial, or contempory - anything from plain to fancy. A very simple change can make a world of difference. At Marquez Pianos we are well-experienced in unlimited restyling options for any decor. If you would like a different finish on your piano, or a new color, contact us. All work is done by hand, piece by piece - no mass production methods are used (such as dipping). We work primarily in oil and lacquer hand rubbed finishes.
Have your piano keys seen better days?
How about your pedals and/or casters? Are keys chipped, discolored, or missing? They can easily and economically be replaced with high quality plastic. Or we can closely match the color and replace individual ivories as necessary.
Pedals can be cleaned, replated, repaired or replaced - there is no need to tolerate the hole in the sustain pedal, or the middle pedal that does not work.Is there a 3-foot long black mark on the wood floor from moving the piano away from the wall? Or, did it snag your carpet? Perhaps you need a different set of casters. Contact us.
Do you need more flexibility in your piano playing or practicing schedule?
Do you own a piano, but have always wanted a synthesizer? Now you can have both. Install a study rail to achieve either soft sound or silence. If you live in a small apartment, or are simply annoying your neighbors or family, this is the solution. A study rail is especially appropriate when the piano in near the television. QuietTime transforms a piano into a 126-voice synthesizer audible via speakers or through headphones. Have the best of both worlds! An additional bonus is that you can transmit MIDI data from the piano keyboard to other keyboards (and computers), thus making your piano a master MIDI keyboard. For more complete information on QuietTime, visit the PianoDisc home page.
Would you love to have a player piano?
